To address the nonstationary nature of partial discharge (PD) signals in vehicle cable terminals, strong feature coupling, and limited separability among defect types, this paper proposes an integrated feature modeling–deep recognition framework for PD defect identification. First, we develop a Dual Branch Differential Fusion Encoding strategy (DBDF-Encoding), in which continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is used to capture fine-grained time–frequency details and a Gramian Angular Difference Field (GADF) is introduced to extract global spatial encoding features. In addition, a differential channel is constructed to explicitly amplify inter-class discrepancies. These components together form a three-channel RGB PD image, enabling complementary multi-view feature fusion and enhanced discrimination. Second, we design a Recurrent Vision Transformer (RVT) architecture. At the image-sequence level, a long short-term memory (LSTM) network is employed to model local sequential dependencies, and this is combined with the Vision Transformer's global self-attention to capture long-range structural information. In this way, the network achieves joint representation learning that integrates local correlations with global patterns for robust classification. Finally, we build a PD experimental platform for vehicle cable terminals, fabricate multiple typical insulation defect samples, and collect a PD dataset. Comparative and validation experiments are conducted to evaluate the proposed DBDF-Encoding and RVT methods. The results show that the proposed framework more effectively represents multi-scale discriminative information in PD data, improves defect identification performance and generalization, and achieves an average accuracy of 95.63%.
