Effect of hand load on arm muscles' preferred direction

It is necessary to study the patterns of muscle movement in view of more effective rehabilitation of patients with movement disorders. In this paper, the effect of hand load on arm muscles' preferred direction was studied. The arm surface electromyography (EMG) was recorded when the subject moves the object to different targets. The hand load varied in the experiment. At the same time,the three-dimensional motion of hand was recorded by the measurement system. Then, the characteristic parameters of the EMG can be obtained in both time domain and nonlinear domain. In the experiment, the right arm of a healthy person was taken as the subject. The results show that each arm muscle has a particular orientation angle, and that with the increase of hand load, the muscle orientation angle drifts regularly. In the rehabilitation treatment of patients with movement disorders, specific action can be designed based on this conclusion to train the adaptability of their specified muscles.
