To monitor the friction state of sliding bearings, a method based on the recurrence characteristics of friction-induced vibration was proposed. Experiments were carried out on the sliding bearing test rig under boundary friction, mixed friction, and liquid friction states, and the friction-induced vibration was extracted. The recurrence characteristics evolution of the friction-induced vibration was investigated by the recurrence plot and recurrence quantification analysis. The results demonstrated that the recurrence plot of friction-induced vibration is closely related to the friction state, which can reflect the evolvement from the boundary friction to the liquid friction state. The friction state can be predicted and identified by the variation of determinism and clustering coefficient of friction induced vibration, which provided a new idea for monitoring the friction state of sliding bearings.
