During the periods of heavy rains, the accumulation of water directly affects the infrastructure of the city of Vitoria de Santo Antao/PE, with serious socioeconomic, agricultural and environmental consequences. The objective of this work was to analyze and compare the similarity of the daily precipitation series, using the method of recurrence chart analysis (RP) and recurrence quantification (RQA), for the periods before (1995 to 2004) and after (2005 to 2015) of 2005 flood, which were made available by the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency (APAC), from January 1995 to December 2015. Based on the results obtained, it was verified the RP exhibited several changes in the oscillations for the two series and that after of 2005 the rainfall dynamics changed to a less predictable regime and with a shorter residence time in laminar states and smaller regularity. This difference is associated with the accumulation of rainwater in 2005, 2010, and 2011.
