Application of Cross-Recurrence plot on the diagnostic of high voltage insulator

This paper deals with the analysis of the leakage current (LC) and the applied voltage waveforms to diagnostics the high voltage insulator surface under desert pollution. We focused on the effect of the sand quantity in term of non-soluble deposit density (NSDD) on the insulator behavior. The leakage current and applied voltage are recorded for each pollution configuration. The Cross recurrence method and their quantification was introduced to study the dependencies between the LC and the applied voltage waveforms. Visual inspection of the CRPs already reveals valuable information about the relationship between the two signals and the analysis of their similarity, which allows us to provide information on the state of the surface of the insulator.
