Recurrence Plots for Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring: Means for Data mining of circadian rhythms

Backgrounds. This report holds the Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) non-linear analysis. The effect of the circadian rhythm was the focus of the study.Methods. We have used a method of Recurrence Plots with their quantifying, which were the Recurrence Ratio and the Entropy.Results. The recurrence Plots of such relative short series as ABPM are quite informative. They show the data pattern, such as the impact of circadian rhythm, almost at a glance. The simple descriptor of these graphs that is the Recurrence Ratio confirms the visual estimations. Circadian rhythm manifests both within blood pressures and heart rates.Conclusions. The analysis of Recurrence Plots with the moving windows method allows not only to confirm the presence of circadian rhythm per se. It sets the points (time moments, bounds) of so-called phase transitions in the patient's state. We found a few extrema of the Recurrence Ratio and the Entropy, which are good agreed among those.
